Role Summary

Are you looking for an opportunity to use your analytical skills and business insight to alleviate poverty and empower people to access life-changing products? You will help us use data to focus internal priorities, drive business decisions, and benefit our customer base.

You will serve internal stakeholders, customers, and external partners with quality analytics and business intelligence products, especially visualizations in our service Sisense.

Outcomes

Empowering Angazans with data-based infrastructure, which provides insights to guide business decision-making and problem-solving, including products like:

a.) Forecasts on which to base compensation targets, financial planning, and prioritization

b.) Portfolio health-related analytics, especially developing self-service tools for cross-functional teams

c.) Prepare data sets and models on which to build data science products that support initiatives like underwriting

Developing data models – in systems like dbt – and visualizations – in systems like Sisense – to support regular business analytics and project-specific data needs:

a.) Rich analytical data models with clear Data Dictionary entries for self-service analytics

b.) Analysis of campaign performance, conversion rate, and other key performance indicators

Establishing strong data governance practices following principles of secure and reliable data management and quality control

Competencies: Remote Positions at ANGAZA

Advanced SQL skills (Angaza uses Snowflake & Postgres)

Ability to design an efficient data model for use within modern BI tools (Angaza uses Hevo, dbt)

Demonstrated ability to design and build rich data visualizations (Angaza uses Sisense)

Understanding of applied statistics & common modeling techniques in a business context

Possess strong business insight and appreciation of the challenges facing growing businesses

Excellent data governance practices, including Git management

  • We recognize there are many paths to success in analytics, but we suspect the strongest candidates will have at least three (3) years of experience in at least one of the following categories:
  • Supporting executive decision-making through descriptive and statistical analysis at an early-stage organization
  • Evaluating patterns of customer growth / credit & risk at a financial technology company with a special focus on consumer lending
  • Analytics engineering

This Position

We are seeking an experienced and multi-talented financial analyst who will own Angaza’s financial planning and analysis process, drive growth, and contribute to strategic decisions.

As a member of the Finance team (currently four individuals across the US & Kenya), you will ensure that all company decisions are made on a sound financial basis and that Angaza’s long-term financial planning sets us up for success.

This role reports to Angaza’s Chief Financial Officer and is based remotely in the USA. 

Responsibilities: Remote Positions at ANGAZA

Manage budgeting and long-term planning process and tools.

Prepare monthly performance and ad hoc reports for the executive team.

Prepare monthly and quarterly reports for the Board and investors.

Provide reports to lenders and monitor covenants

Maintain and develop the company’s core financial model.

Provide analytical/modeling support for the company’s business and strategic finance teams for contract negotiation, pricing and fundraising.

Provide analytical support to the Finance team for billing, monthly closes (statutory and consolidated accounts, external audits).

Interface with company’s Business Intelligence and Engineering teams to ensure that Finance is provided with the tools and processes to perform its work.

Required Experience

5 years of professional experience as a financial analyst in an investment bank, bank or industrial company, or financial technology startup.

Strong financial, analytical and problem solving skills.

Strong modeling skills (Excel, Google Sheets) required.

Strong knowledge of accounting principles and entries required; experience of Quickbooks Online a plus.

BA/BS in finance, accounting, economics or a related field; MBA is a plus.

Desired Experience

Experience using SQL, GitHub, Python, and familiarity with standard data visualization tools i.e. Looker, Sisense a plus.

Fintech experience required, substantial understanding and practice of consumer lending models (underwriting, revenue recognition, payment and collection processes) a strong plus.

Practice of FP&A in a multinational entity (transfer pricing, IFRS/US Gaap, consolidation and tax planning) a plus.
