Engineering Manager Position: Careers at Okra Solar – $54k Annually

Okra is looking for an Engineering Manager to join the team full-time in Porto, Portugal. The successful applicant will ultimately be responsible for the delivery of Okra’s cutting edge, Mesh-Grid controller, the Okra Pod.

Strong leadership skills paired with a broad technical understanding will be necessary. The successful applicant will lead and manage a cross functional team of hardware, firmware & QA engineers, whilst working closely with the Product Manager to understand customer requirements and product priorities.

A “team first” attitude and willingness to pioneer culture will be critical for this role. Aligning company objectives with engineering OKRs and facilitating regular 1-on-1s with team members is another key responsibility of this role.

The Engineering Manager will be accountable for delivering a successful product and therefore, ensuring the engineering team is properly resourced and has access to the necessary equipment and processes that will allow them to operate efficiently.

The successful applicant will work in Portugal whilst managing an international team of 10+ engineers. They will also communicate with the Product Team at the company HQ in Portugal.

There are also opportunities to broaden professional skills set by contributing to non-technical projects within the company, if desired.

Responsibilities

Manage a cross functional team of hardware, firmware & QA engineers

Work closely with Technical Leads from different disciplines to ensure product timeframes can be met and to remove any blockers

Collaboration with the Product Manager to ensure product requirements are met

Design processes to enable effective & efficient product life cycle management, cross team collaboration, documentation, version control, FW & HW release processes, coding guidelines, bug tracking, quality control, etc

Project management using evolving agile SCRUM rituals

Embrace the small-team culture and ability to support and communicate across the entire company.

Write and track team OKRs that align to company objectives

Report to the CTO to ensure we are aligned and on track to hit OKRs

Manage and drive a high performance culture that aligns with the company values

Keep team members motivated & happy

Mentor and provide leadership to achieve outcomes

Support and develop engineers by providing advice, coaching and educational opportunities

What We’re Looking For

5 years experience in a leadership role of a technical team

Experience taking products and/or projects from concept to market

Experience using agile development methodologies

Competent in understanding & guiding different personalities

Clear communicator in both written and verbal form

Strong organisational and interpersonal skills with a team first attitude
