We are also transforming people’s lives with sustainable electricity, improving some of the world’s most vulnerable people’s health, educational and economic futures.

Energicity is seeking a Product Manager to lead one of the fastest growing segments of our business – Productive Use of Energy (PUE).

Building upon clean energy access to our rural customers, our PUE program leases appliances and provides energy services (e.g., cold chain, agro-processing machines, rural e-mobility, etc.) to our customers so they can start new businesses, expand, or transform existing ones, and generally grow their income using our electricity.

PUE plays a critical role in helping rural customers climb up the energy ladder and unlock additional wealth for the communities and families.

The Product Manager will scale existing programs across countries of operations, while deploying a test-and-learn approach for new initiatives. He/she will lead a team, work with internal cross-functional stakeholders, and collaborate with external partners, to make PUE an impactful program to our customers.

If you are up for the challenge of impacting thousands of lives in rural communities, then please send your CV and cover letter to careers@energicitycorp.com, by March 15, 2023, with Product Manager as the subject.  This position can be based in Sierra Leone or Benin. Female candidates are strongly encouraged to apply

Responsibilities – Product Manager, Energicity

  • Lead the end-to-end strategy and execution of Energicity’s existing and future PUE programs, including program strategy, pricing, supply chain, marketing, measurement & reporting, and scaling
  • Implement systems and processes to enable scaling of programs across Energicity’s growing West Africa presence (e.g., Sierra Leone, Benin, Liberia, Nigeria)
  • With a cross-functional team, lead the design thinking, oversee our test-and-learn pilots, manage data collection, customer feedback, and play a key role in the decision of scaling a project
  • Coordinate with cross-functional team members (e.g., Community Managers, Maintenance, Engineering, Finance, Procurement, etc.) to assess feasibility of programs and execute operations (e.g., demand projections, mini-grid sizing, customer demand assessments, on-site installations, etc.)
  • Lead and design communications with customers and senior stakeholders (e.g., Chiefs, youth leaders, etc.) to pitch new products, receive feedback, respond to questions, etc.
  • Build financial models to assess program profitability, including IRR on debt and equity to Energicity’s investors; and  to inform pricing decision-making, etc.
  • Lead relationships with international partners and funders, to pitch Energicity’s PUE program to gain funding, define partnership scope, and execute partnerships
  • Own and track the PUE quarterly and annual budget
  • Lead reporting on key quarterly metrics, including clear communication to the management team via Excel and Powerpoint (e.g., program profitability, volume forecasting, etc.)
  • Establish and develop relationships with key suppliers in collaboration with the procurement team.
  • Train and build capacity of team members on reporting and analytical tasks

The candidate will be reporting to the Senior Director of Customer Operations.

Experience and Profile – Product Manager, Energicity

  • 3+ years’ experience working in strategy, business development, and/or program management role
  • Strong ability to drive a large scope of work independently, particularly with high levels of ambiguity; capable of defining goals, timelines, next steps, and key roadblocks, and engaging the right stakeholders for input
  • Demonstrated project management experience, with strong ability to juggle multiple priorities, anticipate bottlenecks, and foresee challenges
  • Pragmatism in project development and implementation, with a test-and-learn mindset
  • Results-orientation with a strong analytical background and an ability to articulate facts/insights to different target audiences (from community level to senior external stakeholders)

The core values of our company are:

Excellence – Everything we do must be of the highest quality from building and maintaining solar systems, to our software systems, to our documentation.

We double and triple check our own work and each other’s work.  We take responsibility for making things great; we also take responsibility and fix things immediately with anyone who is impacted if anything is less than great.

Learning – we strive to always be learning as an organization and as individuals.  We are solution oriented in all things.   If there’s a problem, we’re always looking at ways to fix it.  If there’s not a problem, we’re always  looking for ways to innovate to be the best we can be.

We set up experiments and tests to try to do things better, we learn when things work, we learn when things don’t.  We aren’t afraid to fail, we ARE afraid not to learn.

Teamwork – we value our team and we value each other.  We have each other’s back.  We communicate when something is working well and on track, we over communicate when something is not working well or on track.

We trust each other and trust that we are all working for the good of the company – and if something isn’t working the way we think it should, the course of action is to communicate, to be solution oriented, and to have each other’s back.

Honor – just as we honor each other, we honor the communities in which we work.  We respect our clients, we respect our stake holders.

We recognize that we are working across multiple cultures and that we try to understand each other’s perspective – knowing that it is our differences that make us the best. We may not always agree with each other, our customers, our stake holders, but at the core of every interaction must be respect.
