id=\"Background_UNDP_Internship_Climate_and_Energy\"><\/span>Background: UNDP Internship: Climate and Energy<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Anchored in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and in line with the priorities outlined in the UNDP Strategic Plan, the Regional Bureau for Arab States supports the Arab States region to achieve sustainable development by eradicating poverty in all its forms and dimensions, accelerating structural transformations for sustainable development, and building resilience to crises and shocks. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Within this work, the Regional Bureau for Arab States responds to needs across development settings including Least Developed Countries, Middle Income Countries, Net Contributor Countries and countries affected by crisis, with a view to support the building of resilience, fight climate change, leverage the promise of innovation, and prioritize the advance of women, youth and vulnerable groups as part of its commitment to the principles of universality, equality and leaving no one behind in an increasing challenging regional context which has been further impacted by the COVID-19 crisis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>RBAS is establishing a roster from which to pool qualified interns during the course of 2022 for a maximum period of 6 months, subject to the needs of the following Teams in class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Regional Bureau for Arab States (RBAS) serves as the headquarters for UNDP regional programme and country programmes in 17 countries in the region. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Bureau proactively engages with internal units and external partners\/stakeholders such as the UN Secretariat, the Permanent Missions, donors and the Executive Board, to discuss and facilitate the work of UNDP in the region. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Regional Bureau conducts strategic analysis and monitors development trends to inform the forward-looking directions of the bureau and to support policies and programmes at regional, and country level in alignment with the SDGs, the UNDP Strategic Plan 2022-2025, and the RBAS Regional Programme Document 2022-2025. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Regional Bureau conducts strategic oversight of the regional and country programmes, and focuses on positioning and programmatic and operational oversight to enhance country office, sub-regional and regional programming results and performance. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It develops and implements partnership strategies for the region in addition to shaping the definition and implementation of the regional communications strategy and advocacy, as a means of positioning development issues and UNDP as a trusted development partner across the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"RBAS_Amman_Regional_Hub_Jordan\"><\/span>RBAS Amman Regional Hub, Jordan<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Hub provides expanded technical backing to Country Offices and ensures effective, timely and responsive support focused on UNDP\u2019s programme priorities and tailored to the emerging and changing needs and priorities in the region. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Regional Hub in Amman offers a wide range of support to Country Offices including strategic policy advice, programme development and implementation, capacity development, policy research and analysis as well as operations support in the following thematic areas:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>SDG Integration<br>The team is at the heart of UNDP\u2019s Global Policy Network (GPN), as it influences, shapes, and activates platforms for intersectional collaboration on complex, multi-faceted, and \u2018frontier\u2019 issues in sustainable development. The team provides technical support on national planning, SDG knowledge management and learning, and integrated SDG mainstreaming into national and regional processes. The SDG offer includes support on SDG Joint funding and localization, research\/data analytics on SDGs linkages,enabling \u2018sense making\u2019 of development trends and building sustainable futures, alignment of national development planning to SDGs, and advisory support on \u2018SDG push\u2019 to accelerate integrated recovery, among others. This SDG offer is delivered through integrated solutions by leveraging substantive connections across teams, the principle of leaving no one behind and joined-up approaches to complex challenges.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Gender<br>The team provides support and advice to Country Offices to ensure all programming in the region is gender responsive, and working closely with other technical teams in the regional hub to develop and support programming promoting gender equality and women\u2019s empowerment. . The gender team works towards placing gender equality at the core of political, economic and environmental policy dialogues and decisions, including in fragile and crisis settings. In addition to improve production and use of gender data and statistics and achieve national ownership for policy options to improve gender equality and women\u2019s empowerment. The gender team also works closely with other UN agencies, including UNWomen, UNFPA, ESCWA and ILO on region wide initiatives on gender justice, women economic empowerment and women, peace and security issues.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Nature, Climate and Energy<br>Regional Nature, Climate and Energy (NCE) team based in Amman supports local programming on climate change adaptation, disaster risk reductions, expanding renewable energy solutions, conserving biodiversity, and enhancing food, land and water security for the poor to help communities manage risks and build resilience. The team manages over 80 projects and $300 million of grants for countries in the Arab Region on these issues, making UNDP and the UN`s leading partner in the region to achieve results under the environmental pillars of the SDGs and global environmental agreements like Paris Agreement on climate change and the Global Biodiversity Framework. The team focuses on:<br>\u00b7 Climate change: climate change and drought are acting as a risk multiplier to social instability and conflict in the region, threatening to roll back development gains and entrench poverty. UNDP supports capacities to implement national NDC climate plans, the Paris Agreement and Sendai Framework, in ways that bring dividends to all SDGs.<br>\u00b7 Sustainable energy: support is aimed at helping countries scale-up renewable energy solutions and expand energy access for the poor; designing new low-carbon development strategies; and reducing the energy intensity of urbanization and growth in key sectors of industry, buildings and transport.<br>\u00b7 Ecosystems and Natural Resources: UNDP places top priority on developing resilience of communities and ecosystems and supporting more sustainable use of biodiversity, water, land and other resources critical for achieving the SDGs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Governance and Peacebuilding<br>Key priorities of UNDP for the region in the area of Governance and Peacebuilding lies in increasing governance accountability and foster community resilience building more transparent and responsible institutions; strengthening inclusive and democratic space; supporting long-standing peace; and fostering an approach to human mobility that responds to the development drivers and consequences of migration and displacement. The team provides assistance to ensure quality policy development and programming, both though regional initiatives and in support to country offices,making use of different tools and across various service areas, which include conflict prevention and peacebuilding, inclusive political processes, social cohesion, rule of law, security and Human Rights, prevention of violent extremism (PVE), state building and public-sector reform, local governance and disability inclusion.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Economy, Inclusive Growth and Sustainable Finance<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>The team supports partners in the region to develop integrated, transformative and scalable solutions to tackle the interconnected challenges of economic diversification and transformation, private sector development, poverty, vulnerability, inequality and exclusion, in ways that are economically, socially and environmentally sustainable. The team assists in enhancing prospects for inclusive growth, jobs and livelihoods at national and local levels, including through economic recovery and resilience-building in crisis and post crisis contexts, focusing on economically empowering women and youth, and advancing economic opportunities for the most vulnerable. It also supports research, policy and program guidance around: macroeconomic stability; private financing; impact investment; fiscal policy, taxation and public finance management; social protection; green, local and digital economy and finance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"6\">\n<li>Strategic Innovation<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>The Strategic Innovation team supports UNDP Country Offices and regional initiatives to embrace new approaches and methodologies, in collaboration with 13 Accelerator Labs in the region (part of the global network of 91 Accelerator Labs) and UNDP\u2019s Chief Digital Office. As detailed in the UNDP Strategic Plan, strategic innovation is one of three enablers (along with digitalization and development financing) of the organization\u2019s new way of working to support three directions of change: structural transformation, resilience and leaving no one behind. The Team\u2019s offers leverage multiple approaches to reach systemic change and ultimately great impact, including systems thinking and portfolio approaches as applied to issues such as youth, gender and human rights; behavioral science; futures thinking and foresight; and alternative finance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"7\">\n<li>Regional Programme<br>The Regional Programme for Arab States is guided by outcomes and solutions outlined in the UNDP Strategic Plan 2022-2025 and is designed to deliver integrated responses to identified challenges in the region. The Regional Programme aims to: a) accelerate the structural transformation of productive capacities in a sustainable and inclusive manner; b) strengthen institutions to promote inclusive participation, prevent conflict and build peaceful societies. The programme includes more than 10 initiatives covering several thematic areas, including anti-corruption and integrity, data and knowledge for the SDGs, electoral support, youth empowerment, climate resilience, etc.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Regional Youth Project &#8211; SHABABEEK<br>One of the flagship projects under the Regional Programme is the Regional Youth Empowerment, Engagement and Knowledge Project SHABABEEK. It represents a bold response to the complex and interconnected challenges the region faces. Young people have shown that they are innovators and agents of positive social change. Together with partners, SHABABEEK pushes for countries in the Arab region to empower and invest in youth through economic and civic empowerment. The project works across the region with stakeholders, including governments, civil society, private sector and the youth themselves, to create an environment that supports young people to lead in developing solutions that tackle the most pressing challenges in their communities and help their countries to achieve the SDGs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sub-Regional Response Facility for the Syria Crisis (SRF)<br>The Sub-Regional Response Facility (SRF) hosts the UNDP-UNHCR Joint Secretariat and coordinates the implementation and monitoring of the Regional Refugee and Resilience Plan (3RP). The Team focuses on improving the policy space offered to ensure a resilience-based development response in Syria\u2019s neighboring countries hosting refugees and in Syria. This include, amongst others, improving monitoring of resilience interventions, and analysis on: the humanitarian-development nexus; social protection in crisis context; resilience-building and human rights, conflict prevention, women and youth empowerment; resilient economic systems, as well as private sector engagement in crisis contexts.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Country Operations Support<br>The team provides strategic and technical support on the use of corporate tools for programme and project management, including project quality assurance, evaluations, etc. The team also provides support to designing UN sustainable development cooperation framework (UNSDCF), country programme document (CPD), and development projects. In addition, the team generates analysis of county office results in support of informed and improved programming in the region as part of the overall implementation of the UNDP Strategic Plan.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Operations<br>The team provides advice on corporate operational strategies, policies and plans. It is responsible for delivering effective and efficient financial, human resources, procurement, administrative and logistical, and ICT services to COs, as well as to the teams in the Hub in line with UNDP rules and regulations.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Duties_and_Responsibilities_UNDP_Internship_Climate_and_Energy\"><\/span>Duties and Responsibilities: UNDP Internship: Climate and Energy<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>While specified TOR will be based on the selection of the cluster\/team, the tasks to be performed by the intern fall under one or more of the following categories as per the requirements\/needs of each cluster\/team:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Policy and Strategy Advice and Development:<br>\u2022 Prepare policy briefs, sector scan, status papers on development challenges based on desk review studies and analysis for evidence-based advocacy and policy development in the relevant field.;<br>\u2022 Assist in the development of new or ongoing initiatives, including review of policy literature in respect to the subject to enhance UNDP programming in the relevant field within the Arab Region;<br>\u2022 Document good practices, cases studies, innovations and pilot models for wider dissemination and sharing;<br>\u2022 Prepare Report\/Note on the role of UNDP\u2019s Programmatic Support in Structural Transformation in Arab States<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Assist in the documentation of the outcome of a number of regional consultations for positioning UNDP in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Project_Design_formulation_and_other_project_related_functions\"><\/span>Project Design, formulation and other project related functions:<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Assist in policy development in relevant area within UNDP in the Arab Region feeding into global policy development;<br>\u2022 Prepare conceptual framework \/ concept notes on new areas of work or development challenges;<br>\u2022 Assist in the development of technical support in development of new interventions or projects;<br>\u2022 Prepare and review project documents;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Knowledge_Management_Communications\"><\/span>Knowledge Management &amp; Communications:<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Prepare knowledge and communication products for advocacy and outreach, related to national, regional and global initiatives within the relevant team;<br>\u2022 Review knowledge and communications products (subject, design and content);<br>\u2022 Disseminate knowledge and communications products;<br>\u2022 Contribute to the preparation of social media content, the drafting of news, interviews and stories for knowledge platform, the development of relevant brochures, videos and infographics;<br>\u2022 Contribute to the development of press releases for printed and online media outlets, especially on the occasion of regional projects\u2019 activities and events;<br>\u2022 Draft or support drafting of blog posts and other externally-facing pieces on emerging trends in relevant field;<br>\u2022 Capture stories which reflect on know how (procedures, processes, tactics) and know why (lessons learned, reasons for failures\/success);<br>Monitor any social media feedback regarding UNDP events\/conferences in the region<br>\u2022 Undertake regular website updates;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Research_and_Data_Management\"><\/span>Research and Data Management:<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Undertake research on relevant initiatives in areas of interest;<br>\u2022 Conduct data collection and analyze data collected;<br>\u2022 Conduct desk reviews of existing research and literature on specific areas;<br>\u2022 Develop a repository of certain\/specific initiatives from the region, with supporting resources such as presentations, press releases, blogs, etc;<br>\u2022 Manage files and online database of related documents in a structured way;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Operations_Support\"><\/span>Operations Support:<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Provide administrative and logistical support;<br>\u2022 Support organization of workshops, conferences and retreats in coordination with other staff; Arabic and French language skills would be an asset<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stipend<br>-Where an intern is not financially supported by any institution or programme, such as a university, government, foundation or scholarship programme, a stipend intended to help cover basic daily expenses related to the internship, such as meals and transportation at the duty station, must be paid by the receiving office.<br>-The monthly amount of the stipend will be determined for each duty station based on the stipend rates published yearly by the OHR Policy and Compensation Unit. The stipend will be paid on a monthly basis and part-time internship arrangements are prorated accordingly.<br>-Where an intern is financially supported by an institution, government or third party, UNDP will, subject to the rules of such institution, government or third party, pay the intern the difference, if any, between the external financial support provided and the applicable UNDP stipend.<br>-No other payments of any kind will be made to an intern by the office in connection with an internship agreement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Where an intern is engaged in-person and is not financially supported by any institution or programme, such as a university, Government, foundation or scholarship programme, a stipend intended to help cover basic daily expenses related to an in-person internship, such as meals and transportation at the duty station, must be paid by the receiving office.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Where an intern is engaged remotely and is not financially supported by any institution or programme, such as a university, Government, foundation or scholarship programme, a remote stipend intended to help cover expenses related to the internship, such as internet connections or other means to remain in contact with the receiving office, must be paid by the receiving office.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The monthly amount of the stipend for remote internships will be based on a standard global rate applicable for all remote internships. The amount of the stipend for in-person internships will be set for each duty station. The stipend will be paid on a monthly basis and will be pro-rated for part-time internship arrangements.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Where an intern is financially supported by an institution, Government or third party, UNDP will, subject to the rules of such institution, Government or third party, pay the intern the difference, if any, between the external financial support provided and the applicable UNDP stipend.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Interns will accrue combined sick and annual leave at the rate of 1 \u00bd days per month, which will be prorated to the nearest half day for part-time internships. Any accrued leave days not used by the end of the internship will be forfeited.
