Together, we deliver grassroots programmes, provide emergency relief and campaign for things such as women\u2019s economic rights, tax justice and climate justice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our work falls into four broad areas:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/actionaid.org\/taxonomy\/term\/71\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">women<\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/actionaid.org\/taxonomy\/term\/3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">politics and economics<\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/actionaid.org\/taxonomy\/term\/2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">land and climate<\/a>, and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/actionaid.org\/taxonomy\/term\/70\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emergencies<\/a>. We have a particular focus on women\u2019s rights; it\u2019s a thread that runs through all our work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ActionAid was founded as a charity in 1972. In the 1990s, we adopted a human rights-based approach to development. In 2003, we established the ActionAid International federation. Our head office is in Johannesburg, South Africa. We also have hubs in Asia, the Americas and Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is our international website, where we share inspiring stories from around the federation, bold thought-leadership&nbsp;and practical tools that catalyse change. If we can support people to know, claim and defend their rights, the world will be a fairer place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/solareyesinternational.com\/why-solar-energy-reasons-to-go-solar\/\">WHY SOLAR ENERGY? \u2013 10 reasons to go solar<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Disasters, crises and conflicts have a disproportionate effect on women. They increase the likelihood of women&#8217;s human rights violations. They often exclude women from decision making and deny them access to resources. And yet women and women&#8217;s organisations are significantly underrepresented in humanitarian responses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To address this, we focus on cultivating women&#8217;s leadership in emergencies. This is a central pillar of our human rights-based approach. We empower women, helping them to play an active role in humanitarian responses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We also shift power to local organisations and movements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Action for Global Justice is the next step in our evolution.
