You will be working as Field Service Technician and will be part of Electrification business area for Services division based in Cape Town, South Africa. In this role you will be reporting to Service Team Leader and will be responsible to execute service delivery according to agreed workflows and in accordance with ABB standard processes and safety guidelines. Deliver excellent customer service to satisfy customer needs, take action to identify new service business opportunities for ABB in co-operation with the customer and other ABB team members

Your responsibilities

  • Adhering to standards of Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) and complying with ABB and the clients company health, safety & environment management system requirements, taking reasonable care of one’s own health and safety and that of others in the workplace
  • Delivering a high quality, consistent and competent service in accordance with project / company requirements, standards and procedures to support overall delivery of company goals and schedule,
  • Safely performing testing and commissioning functions on the following within the given time frame on medium/LV voltage distribution systems, medium/LV voltage switchgear, digital switch gear, protection relays, protection relay coordination, settings, SLDs, cable schedule, key schematic diagrams, medium/LV voltage retrofit installations and battery chargers
  • Completing approved commissioning check sheets, assisting vendor representatives and site operations in commissioning and startup (energization) activities for medium and low voltage electrical systems, updating and markup drawings during commissioning
  • Preparing the testing and pre-commissioning report, competent to use all test equipment, preparing all documents and customer reports to be signed by the customer representative. utilize all relevant tools, reporting work done in a timely manner and follows up when needed and troubleshooting
  • Troubleshooting equipment/process failures and requests proactive corrective actions and making recommendations to avoid repeating the problem in the future, proactively planning and executing work on a first-time right approach with customers, and ensures the job is done on time and on quality
  • Identifying improvement needs and potential solutions for them in the way of working, providing technical guidance to associates, acting as trainer when needed, for field service associates and customers

Your background

  • Diploma in Electrical Engineering, trained and certified protection specialist, 5 years
  • B Tech Elect (Advantageous)
  • Ability to read and interpret circuit diagrams, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, SABS installation standards
  • Switchgear repairs and testing
  • Ability to use a variety of electrical test equipment
  • Valid driver’s license and valid passport
  • Fluency in English language is mandatory
  • Preference will be given to EE candidates
