About CRSES:

The CRSES is a dynamic team of research engineers that are passionate about assisting
the healthy uptake of renewable and sustainable energy in South Africa. Renewable energy
is naturally inter-disciplinary, and problem solving is complex and muti-faceted. The
candidate must be self-driven and excited to learn and grow without being micro-managed.
While direct experience in renewable energy is not required, a genuine interest in the field
is essential. CRSES provides invaluable hands-on experience that will enhance your
skills and significantly contribute to your future career growth.

Job Description

This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain valuable skills in engineering design,
energy modeling, techno-economic analysis, and project management. Based at
Stellenbosch University, you will have access to the university’s extensive resources and
expertise, opening doors to future academic pursuits, career advancement, or collaborative
opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting techno-economic feasibility studies
  • Utilizing software tools such as PVsyst and Homer Pro for modeling
  • Performing data analysis using Excel and Python
  • Conducting resource mapping exercises
  • Assisting with energy monitoring activities, including equipment installation, data
    collection, and analysis
  • Conducting research tasks, including literature reviews, report writing, and
    information presentation
  • Basic energy modeling
  • Contributing to technical projects, such as demonstration unit design
  • Assisting in project management activities, including scope definition, resource
    organization, and time management
    Qualifications and Experience:
  • (BSc/BEng) in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronic, Mechatronic, Chemical
    Engineering, or Computer Science
  • Entry-level experience (0-3 years) is preferred but not required

Requirements

Excellent communication skills in English (written and verbal)

  • Proficiency in Microsoft software (Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Strong report writing skills.
  • Interest in renewable energy technology development
  • Self-motivated with good time management and deadline judgment
  • Proactive work ethic
