About the Role – Senior Advisor – Office of Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry

Develop and implement diplomatic strategies for engaging with major economies and other priority countries
Provide strategic direction for the Office of the Special Presidential Envoy
Support and work with Special Presidential Envoy John Kerry, other members of the team, and other U.S. government principals to advance climate priorities within their regional and country portfolios.

Engage with foreign governments, the U.S. interagency, civil society, and the private sector to advance this agenda.

The ideal candidate for the Senior Advisor – Office of Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry will have a strong background in international climate change issues as well as regional expertise.

Responsibilities will include: Senior Advisor – Office of Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry

Develop and implement strategies to secure and enhance commitments to enhance climate action, and to support implementation of policy action to achieve emissions reductions in designated countries and regions, including via bilateral and multilateral efforts;

Collaborate with subject-matter experts in the Office of the Special Presidential Envoy for Climate and the Office of Global Change to develop and advance region- /country-specific climate priorities;

Prepare deliverables that demonstrate progress and drive outcomes, including for COP28 and other high-level events; and,
Represent the United States in meetings with government officials and civil society.

Qualifications – Senior Advisor – Office of Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry

10 or more years of experience in international climate change or related topics; strong understanding of climate and clean energy strategies.
Strong expertise or experience in particular regions or G20 countries.

Experience identifying solutions and formulating strategies to complex, multidimensional, multi-actor problems.
Experience formulating and designing large-scale initiatives and programs.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to understand and communicate technical policy issues.
Strong networking and coalition-building skills, with strong existing networks in the climate space or among regional stakeholders.

Desire to work in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment.
Existing security clearance highly desirable though not required (incumbent will be required to obtain clearance before beginning)

Travel: up to 25%
