The summer school: CNESS SUMMER SCHOOL- Climate Neutral Energy Systems and Society – Tampere University

CNESS Summer School provides the opportunity to attend an intensive academic program with lectures covering the most prominent energy-related topics (politics, engineering, construction, business, etc.), with a special focus on the current energy crisis. The one-week intensive course includes both theoretical elements and practical training through case studies, mock cases and discussions. Furthermore, the summer school offers visits to energy facilities, guest lectures from professionals, a poster session and a social program to introduce the participants to Nordic life and culture.

What we aim for

CNESS Summer School aims to support the development of the students’ competencies in topics related to energy and climate neutrality through a multidisciplinary program. After the summer school, participants will gain an understanding of the energy systems in their full complexity, across disciplines and in the light of current challenges. The course also offers students access to a platform and network of researchers from different fields and backgrounds that will support their future careers in the area of energy research and beyond.

Whom we are looking for

We are looking for highly motivated postgraduate students (masters or PhD) and early-stage researchers from all energy-related disciplines. In addition, we invite young professionals from governmental institutions, companies, think tanks and NGOs to apply too. Approximately 20 students will be admitted to the summer school to ensure interactive courses and discussions. The selected students are expected to participate fully in the program by attending all classes, lectures and site visits.

The best poster will be awarded at the end of the summer school.

Fee and other costs

The summer school is free of charge. Furthermore, CNESS covers the accommodation costs at a hotel in the city centre of Tampere, close to four small hydropower plants built between 1916 and 1938. CNESS does not cover transportation costs from the student’s host country to Finland and back.
