The TNFD will address threats to the health and value of natural capital derived from the conduct of corporate activities that do not adequately consider the financial materiality and impacts of biodiversity loss. Initiatives such as TNFD will enable governments to better integrate knowledge of nature risk of those financial flows within their national policies and make the relevant strategic plans more effective in responding to emerging country priorities.

The following terms of reference (TOR) set out the expectations for the TE for the project “Integrated Ridge to Reef Management of the Mesoamerican Reef Ecoregion (MAR2R)” hereafter referred to as the “Project”. The technical consultant selected to conduct this evaluation will be referred to as “evaluator” throughout this TOR.   The Project seeks to support regional collaboration for integrated ridge to reef management of the MAR ecoregion by demonstrating its advantages and improving regional, national, and local capacities for integrated management and governance of its freshwater, coastal, and marine resources. The project has four interrelated components designed to scale up existing baseline programs to address key threats and barriers to the integrated management and conservation of the MAR: – Strengthen resource governance and regional collaboration for integrated ridge to reef management; – Integrated ridge to reef management of watersheds and freshwater resources; – Integrated ridge to reef management of coastal and marine resources; and – Project monitoring and evaluation, and knowledge sharing. Key conservation strategies include: protected area management; land use planning; law enforcement and species conservation; community-based natural resources management and livelihood improvement, e.g. through sustainable agriculture and forestry. Effective protected area management is a corner stone of WWF’s conservation efforts in the DRC, in close partnership with ICCN (Institut Congolais pour la Conservation de la Nature), the national protected area management authority. New, creative perspectives are needed to effectively manage protected areas in challenging social, economic, cultural, and logistical environments. WWF and ICCN have agreed to implement an innovative form of Public Private Partnership management approach in forms of co-management to professionalise the management of the park while also improving the life standards of communities living in the landscape.
